Year End Blooms

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

This One-Day-Yellow Desert Rose gave me a big relief! I pruned off its only stem two months ago for more stems to grow out. It didn't. Instead one stem grew back but with several blooms.

My Flame Violet gave me a cheery year-end with its bright red flowers! I find that this plant really like the condition of the space below my porch. The leaves have never even withered since I planted its stolons in this small white pot.

Meanwhile, the red Gloxinia came with four buds only and three blossomed. The last one rotted as I over-watered the plant. Fortunately the plant did not die later. I hope it would 'resurrect' and give me more flowers next year.

Have a funfilled countdown to Year 2010!

  4. Lovely desert rose. I want to grow these plants but I am afraid it won't survive the winters here. Have to specially create some lighting/heat treatment for it. Have consulted a seller here in India and he said that i can try growing it this springs. Hope it will make through.

Regarding the card on my blog yes that is lisianthus (My fav plant)

Wishing you a great year ahead!

  6. Your dessert rose is beautiful, reminds me somehow of lilies and that orange one,Flame Violet, what a sunshine, good it survived all the water and Gloxinias are allways a winner :) No chance I will overwater my plants, I seem to have forgotten them for weeks.. Wish you all the best for next year - enjoy your evening :)

  11. hi Stephanie, a Prosperous New Year for you. I haven't seen that yellow dessert rose yet, but your experience is quite amusing and rewarding. I had a wonderful experience also about Episcia several years ago when i had a fascination with them. I realized they don't like too much food because mine grow very vigorous big leaves at the beginning. Maybe the diffuse light i gave them also delighted them. However when more shoots come, it become very ordinary, so after sometime i gave them to friends and i lost my interest with them already. sorry about that though!

  13. Happy New year to you Stephanie! That is quirky of the desert rose, you have cut it down far. I am afraid to do that to mine in case I loose them. Yes I have killed my Gloxinia with too much water so this year I have none.
