True Blue Gloxinia

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

I bought this Gloxinia in September last year. I pruned off the whole plant in December after all the flower buds have opened. The first time the plant regrew, the leaves turned yellow due to over-watering. It then grew back the second time and the result is shown here.

Below picture was taken when the first two flowers began to open...

This one is propagated from the plant's leaf. I separated one plantlet from the rest of the baby plants. The plant grew and gave me the beautiful blooms in the pic below.

The result is satisfying!

And I love its gorgeous flower...

Here are my backups which I propagated using leaf cuttings.

  9. Steph, they are so beautiful and as always your plants look healthy except for those sunflower with aphids, hehe. I've never taken care of Gloxinia though i have experience with planting Saintpaulia (African violets) from leaves too. I am sure they both don't like overwatering and hot sun!

  10. You have mastered the way to handle Gloxinias when you explained about pruning and regrowing... a brave approach indeed. That whiter shade of blue at the edge enhance the lines.....

  13. A true beatiful flower you are showing. I never could get those flowering 'pot-plants' to survive for long, guess that's why I like hoya, need little water..But I love the colours of Gloxinia. Your meat eating plant I fancy, the stalks looks excotic and the colours are nice, and feeding it with grasshoppers, yummie, nice meal :) Here I should be able to feed it with mosquito's, plenty of food around..
