Good Tidings

Sunday, December 19, 2010

I thought this new Amaryllis would be a pink one but it turned out to be red. The flower buds were pink at the nursery but when I brought the plant home, it developed into a much darker colour.

And when I look around my garden I was happy to see other red flowers also. I spotted Episcia flowers instantly as its little blooms look really outstanding against its dark foliage. And both pots of this Episcia are in bloom at the same time :-)

Bunny Rabbit Plant is currently in full bloom. I am totally taken aback by its prolific flowering. However, the plant needs lots of water to strive in our weather. During good sunny days, I have to water the plant twice a day - the leaves will tell you so :-)

The plant is placed in the shelter and receives a few hours of afternoon sun daily.

These 'claws' look yummy... hehehe. Currently, the height of the plant is only about 10 inches from the soil line to the tip of the bloom. Its flower bract shoots out like a bromeliad. Btw anyone know the ID of this heliconia?

Meanwhile, Poinsettia blooms' flaming red colour is fading away but still look fine from afar... unless when you put a new one besides it ;-)

Good tidings of joy to you and your family this Christmas!

  12. Lots of lovely Christmasy red plants ... your Amaryllis is lovely despite being the wrong colour. I haven't heard of Snapdragons being called Rabbit's Ears before but it definitely seems to suit it. I do hope you have a fabulous festive season!

  35. Do you know what variety that amaryllis is? Not usually a fan of red ones but the shape of that one is really nice. Was there only 2 blooms per stalk? :)

    1. Hello Kenny, after these two blooms, the third and fourth flower blossomed (from the same stalk) shortly after. As what variety, I could only say it is a Hippeastrum sp. as the bulb was not labelled. But it does look like the variety, 'Red Lion'. Cheers, Stephanie
