Blushing Plants

Saturday, April 30, 2011

My Neoregelia Tangerine's top foliages were red when I bought the plant a year ago. Then it turned green.

After withholding fertiliser for many months, I see a little blush but I am still not sure if the foliage will ever turn red again or will it flower. Anyone has had similar experience with this type of bromeliad before?

The Sarracenia in my garden meanwhile takes forever to develop its flower. Although the stalk of flower has grown much taller over two weeks, the bud has still not open yet!

After many days of rain, I was thrilled to see a stalk of pink flower bud emerging from the pot below. Welcome back, Siam Tulip!

My new Rain Lily came with two pretty blooms. Love the cheery sight of the flowers :-)

Although it has been cloudy and rainy in the afternoon for the past one week, the Hibiscus Red Shield doesn't seem to be affected by the bad weather at all. Its soft pink flowers never fail to capture my attention.

My Guzmania will be sending out its stunning flower bracts soon...

Happy watching your plants grow!

  1. Lots of lovely pink. Rain lilies are just wonderful little plants. I think I need many more in my garden.

Your Hibiscus Red Shield and Guzmania are looking terrific. Sorry I can't help with any advice about your Neoregelia. Definitely not something I've had lots of experience with.

  4. Are you having that much rain now? Never really got the hang on eastern rainseason.. Here it's spring with beautiful sunshine. Your Rain Lily looks magnificent, a beautiful pink colour. My lilies would rutten with to much rain though.. Lovely photos you are showing, guess the rainy weather brings out the colours.
    Have a nice sunday :)

  5. Stephanie,
Beautiful photos and flowers. They are all so beautiful. I don't know how you can remember all the names to the plants & flowers, I could never. I'm not good at names.

  7. Steph, it's nice to have such lovely specimens to view after many days of rain. I'm having a winter blues attack because the weather has been rainy, cold, and wacky here in Michigan and nothing in my garden is in bloom.

Thanks to your post and others I have something pretty to look at. I like the Siam tulip and your new Rain lily.... very cute!

  8. I was sitting here thinking, Siam Tulip? Then I remembered I grow this plant in the ground. Curcuma! They are slow to emerge this spring, the other gingers are already green. Curcuma blooms here in August.

  13. Sorry I cannot help with your neo. Maybe Andrea will have a scientific explanation. She just reminded me about the discussion last year about why leaves change colors.

My Siam tulip hasn't come out yet. Lucky you!
