Glad I Didn't Missed It

Guess what's the little red flower that's at the top right corner of the pic below.

It is my old miniature Rose! The plant was growing weaker and weaker before I decided to do without it. Instead of chucking it into the bin, I just planted it at a corner of a pot. As I was checking on my plants, I was surprised to see something red appearing behind my Pentas. Now I am so glad I had not just tossed it away!

The other kind of rose (but not really a rose!) in my garden is the Desert Rose that is in bloom as well.

Although the sun is sunnier these two weeks the weather is still quite bad. Anyway, I am happy to see their cheery flowers all blooming together.

The Balsam has been flowering since Chinese New Year in February. I love its long blooming habit :-)

I am really proud of the bi-colour Impatiens flowers below which have irregular patterns. It's the first two flowers since I started this plant from a cutting in mid-February.

My other Impatiens grew much taller and is still sending out blooms...

The Ruellia and Blue Daze in the pic below are the closer shots of their blooms...

Water thrifty plants meanwhile always amaze me. Victoria Fern is the latest addition to join these group of plants. It's a fern that needs less light and less water then the other ferns that I have.

Hope your plants give you some surprises today!

I contributed a post on nasi goreng (fried rice) on Wendy's new blog on Asian food, Wai Sek. It's fun to see my post published there. Hop over to find a simple fried rice recipe :-D

  5. Sometimes if we coddle too much on a plant, instead of growing healthier, it dies off. But when we just chuck it off in one corner, without paying any attention to it, its going to die anyway...out of the blues, it will thrive back and blooming! Its nature's work, and it surprises us! Your lovely garden never fail to delight me Steph!

  15. great surprise! It's starting to warm up and I'm in full weeding mode. I've found lots of surprises as well (mostly good ones, but some bad - many slugs, lots and lots of shotweed, etc.)

  17. Steph, this is the first time you showed ordinary plants/ornamentals. Normally, i come here to see those i haven't seen yet, now most of these are our weeds in the province. hehe! Haven't you seen a blue impatiens, now if you do, that is very unique i guess!

  18. Looking good Stephanie! So much pretty foliage and beautiful blooms in spite of your icky weather. I'm glad you rescued your mini rose.

I had a few mini roses my husband gave me when we first met. All except one died, and that one was pretty sad looking - getting smaller and smaller each year. I didn't expect to see it leaf out this year, but instead of dying it is much fuller and prettier than it has been since it was new - can't wait to see it bloom!
