A single rose can be my garden... a single friend, my world -- Leo Buscaglia

Rosa 'Kate'

This is a well said quote, isn't it? Roses are gorgeous and timeless beauties. To date I can't pinpoint a particular rose or even the colour of a rose that I like most. They are all so pretty!

Rosa 'Duftjuwel'

Roses however are not an easy plant to cultivate especially in our tropical climate that is always humid and hot.

Recently I visited the beautiful rose garden of Rohani Bujang, head of the Honey Bee Rose Club. I saw many thriving roses! All the roses were planted using the organic way.

Rosa 'Party Time'

What I found most interesting was that the soil mix she used i.e. one part compost and another part a blend of the following ingredients (all or part of): perlite, burnt soil, sand, rice hull, black soil and coconut husk.

Rosa 'Pat Austin"

I have one Othello rose in my garden now. In spite of the heavy downpour in the afternoon these days, I just hope that the soil in the pot is not affected/compacted by the rain and clogged...

I went out in the cold, torrential rain this evening, to look at the garden, and was overjoyed to see the first rose of the season in bloom, a white climber called 'White Cloud'. Just gorgeous !

    1. Deep yellow is nice :-) The rose club I mentioned in the post has came out with a good way to care for rose here. Seeing is believing, the club's garden looked glorious with many thriving roses.

    1. The rain did that to mine once. I hope the current heavy down pour wouldn't kill my Othello hehe... This morning I passed by a house that has some admirable roses at the front yard and the gardener seems to be propagating more and more of it. I hope one day I can do the same ;-)

  8. Adelaide has heat waves every year.
But roses there seems to thrive and Adelaide are one of the top 5 rose exporters.
I think humidity makes them go sick easily especially black spotting.
