Mung bean sprouts (Botanical name: Vigna radiata) growing in a teapot 😊


Just pre-soak the mung beans for 6-8 hours. Keep the pot covered, rinse the soaked beans regularly and you will get to harvest plenty of bean sprouts within 48 hours.


I have also harvested the sprouts just after 24 hours and they look like this...


I like the taste of both. So now I harvest them depending on what I cook them with 😉

Sprouts have high concentration of nutrients. That is why they are known as a superfood or living food.

  1. Wow ! Lovely shots Stephanie ,those tea pots are a great idea for growing moong sprouts .I love moong sprouts they have great nutritional value and I often add them in diet by making Savoury and sweet pancakes .

    1. Sometimes I need only a handful of sprouts to add to my vegetable dish. Hence the cute teapot hehe...

  2. Very appetizing and so cute, but I'd probably just end up making mung tea!

    I used to sprout mung beans in one of those sprouting jars.

    I looked at your labels and could not find Synsepalum dulcificum (Miracle Fruit). I think it would grow in Malaysia. Mine was outside, in a pot, and not very happy. Last summer I brought it inside when they were forecasting a hurricane. It's happy now! Still no fruit, but the leaves are nice. Maybe I'll have berries this year! (Always the optimist).

    Then I see acerola.in your list .. Mine (in a large pot) is happy enough, but it won't fruit either. Any suggestions?

    1. LOL... Now I have another idea... pour some hot water into the pot and the sprouts get cooked, easy peasy haha... Yes, that miracle fruit is popular here too. The tree thrive very well under the hot sun. So does acerola. I have always wanted to grow it in a big pot but can't find a space to do so yet. Anyway, I have been feeding my little potted acerola with complete fertiliser and sometimes flower fertiliser.

  3. Interesting! Tauge (mung Bean sprouts) is one of our favorite vegetable. We use it for Soto, Pecel, urap and many more dishes.

    1. I used a normal pot to sprout earlier and I thought the crop was too much for me so used this little pot instead. We add mung bean sprouts into dishes like you too. Many also just cook a whole plate of the sprout. Btw, I have not eaten urap before. Sounds nice :)
