A Single-Petaled Gloxinia Raised From Seed
Monday, February 17, 2025Here is a chronicle of this beautiful single-petaled Gloxinia Avanti Peach Rose (F1) from seed to flower. Recently, the seedlings grew in size slowly for two years before they started to produce their first flowers.

I sowed the seeds on 20 October 2022 by covering them with a thin layer of soil in a small pot.
While waiting for the seeds to germinate, I kept them protected by overturning a pot...
The seeds sprouted within a week.
The seedlings were still tiny even after a week...
And were still small after almost a year (see the pot on the left side in the pic below, taken on 4 August 2023). During this period, I kept them protected from the birds with a sieve...
I stopped noticing the seedlings for some time and then, on 17 September 2024, I noticed buds forming, yay!
These were the first blooms and true to seed, they have the exact colouration as the picture of blooms printed on the seed packet.
The red double-petaled Gloxinia besides it, which has been in the garden for some time, were pushing out some flowers as well. How lovely...
I plucked one leaf of the new Gloxinia to propagate more plants. This way of propagation I find will yield a faster outcome as opposed to seed propagation.
.I'm now awaiting the next bloom. Have you grown a Gloxinia recently?
