One Versatile Bonsai
Friday, November 21, 2025Buxus harlandii popularly called Harland Boxwood is great for partial shade and full sun environment here in Malaysia. It is heat as well as humidity tolerant. The only place that I have not grown this plant is indoors.
This particular potted Harland Boxwood, looking like a tree, is more than ten years old now. I did not realised this till I checked my previous post that I had written about this plant. Oh, time flies so fast! In fact as far as I can remember, I was growing this plant way before that post.
This coastal southeast China native has tiny leaves and is really demure in size. I just love its slow-growing nature as it needed less attention in pruning. Also it is such a hardy plant that requires little attention in watering and feeding.
Perhaps if the plant is grown in the ground it will grow taller as I read that the plant can grow up to three feet tall. Also, the plant bears tiny pale yellow flowers, which I have never noticed mine doing so.
Try growing a bonsai and you will find that it is so strange that a plant just stay small for many years ;)
