Pretty Arty Plants in PJ

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Our city council's gardeners are becoming more and more creative! Recently I noticed many nicely trimmed topiaries in round and box shapes around Petaling Jaya (PJ). I admire these trees and shrubs when passing them in the car. My journeys on the road are now becoming more interesting.

After looking at these pretty plants, I am now considering writing some words of encouragement to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), specifically to the gardeners there for doing a good job! I wish I could commend the gardeners in person but I have no chance so far of meeting them. Maybe they cut the plants early in the morning when I am still in bed :-)

Topiary is the art of trimming shrubs into shapes. I have mentioned in an earlier post that I recall seeing animal-shaped topiaries back in Taman Dr Seenivasagam, a popular recreational park in my hometown, Ipoh when I was a child. Families would go there for outings and always make it a point to have photographs taken with those topiaries. Sadly, they are no longer there anymore.

I am sure that if the right resources are given to the MBPJ's gardeners, they would also be able to plant character or thematic topiaries in the shapes of monuments, 3-D alphabets, animals etc... like those in
Railton, a town in Tasmania, Australia.

Railton is a town of topiaries. There are topiaries all over the town and in private gardens. They not only encourage its town residents to excel in creativity, more importantly it brings in many tourists. Can this happen to PJ? Perhaps I should present this suggestion to the city council in my letter to them.

  1. You should. Maybe you could send pictures as well. Who knows, you might see something similar along the road one day! :)

  2. Ok I will :-) Thank you for your support!

  3. It would be really pretty if PJ was full of topiaries. I think you should write to encourage them! And give them more ideas :)
